Northumberland Today - Canada on home staging

Top rooms to stage in your home

Posted 1 day ago

Showcase your home with pride. Most buyers prefer a home in move-in condition and a well-maintained home inspires confidence. The more of your property you can stage the better. Here are the top recommendations for home staging.

Even though it is not a room, curb appeal should be first on your list. Curb appeal is the appearance of the exterior of your house and your yard. Sellers often overlook this aspect of their property but, in fact, it should be a priority. Curb appeal can either inspire buyers to stop and visit your home, discourage them before they even walk through the door, or make them drive right by altogether. Make sure that your lawn is cut, the garden is weeded, and, during winter, the entrances are clear of snow. Keep your paths and home exterior clean and remove any clutter.

Next on your list should be the room that first greets potential buyers. In most homes, this is the living room. First impressions are crucial, so you want visitors to fall in love with your home as soon as they walk in. Next, because the kitchen and main bathroom are usually high on the buyers' list of priorities, it is important that you stage these rooms. Small changes often make all the difference.

Finally, make sure that every room is clean and uncluttered. Let natural light into the room and position the furniture to show off its full potential. Sometimes it is as simple as adding the right piece of art, a fluffy towel, or some fresh flowers.
